Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of cold therapy on anal pain in patients with olonoscopy.

Methods: A quasi-experiment non-synchronized with non-equivalent control group was used for identifying the effects of cold therapy on anal pain in patients with colonoscopy. The participants in this study were 40 patients who were inpatients at G hospital. For measuring pain intensity, the VAS was used. Vital sign were measured as indicators of physiological reaction to pain. Data were analyzed statistically, using SPSS 11.0 Program.

Results: The degree of pain intensity of experimental group was significantly decrease, compared to control group. There were no significant changes in physical indicator(vital signs) of the two groups. The degree of having analgesics of experimental group was significantly lower than control group.

Conclusion: Cold therapy can be effective in pain for patients with colonoscopy. Therefore cold therapy could be recommended as an effective nursing intervention for relieving anal pain related to colonscopy.
